David Petroy, President

David has over 20 years of project management experience managing technical projects in the oil, environmental geophysics, renewable energy, and manufacturing industries. He is an IGSHPA (International Ground Source Heat Pump Association) certified installer and has designed over 75 geothermal heat pump systems. Dave is also accredited by the Residential Energy Services Network according to the Mortgage Industry National Home Energy Rating System Accreditation Standards. RESNET Rating Code of Ethics.

Monte Schmidt, Director of Operations

Monte has over 30 years of experience in all aspects of the HVAC industry including commercial and residential system design, installation, commissioning and service. Since specializing in geothermal heat pump system technology in 1997, Monte has been a leader in the development of the ground source heat pump market in Colorado. As manager at Valley Heating and Air Conditioning, and then founder of Valley Geothermal, he has supervised the installation of over 180 GSHP systems in Colorado, both residential and commercial. Monte is an International Ground Source Heat Pump Association Certified Trainer and Installer.

J.D. Best, P.E., Senior Project Engineer

JD has a BS in Mechanical Engineering from North Carolina State.  Prior to joining Blue Sky in 2006, JD worked in various engineering development and troubleshooting capacities in both manufacturing environments and steam power plants. He is an expert in geothermal heating and cooling as well as the fundamentals of domestic HVAC, including forced air and radiant systems. J.D. is a licensed Mechanical Engineer in the State of Colorado and is also a certified energy rater.

Brandon Schmidt, Operations Manager

Brandon has been working in the HVAC installation field for many years and has over 10 years of experience in the geothermal field. His primary focus is on advanced hydronics systems such as radiant floors and snowmelt systems. Specializing in advanced control schemes, Brandon is able to seamlessly integrate multiple systems, such as gas boilers, heat pumps, and domestic hot water systems for an efficient and comfortable overall system.

Nancy Wheeley, Office / Purchasing Manager

Nancy joined Blue Sky over 5 years ago and continues to provide dedicated skills in the office to keep everybody else out of trouble and provide technical skills where needed. She has developed a thorough understanding of geothermal and the HVAC business and can provide valuable advice and initial estimates.

Ben Pullen, Loop Installation Manager

Ben manages all aspects of the ground loop heat exchanger installation, including drilling, trenching, grouting, thermal fusion, and flushing and purging the loop itself. He has successfully installed vertical closed loops, horizontal loops, pond loops, and open loops, and his work ensures a trouble-free system for years to come.

Ann Szeligowsky has provided accounting services to Blue Valley Energy, and formerly Valley Geothermal, for the past 6 years.  She has over 25 years of experience in the accounting industry, and her close attention to detail helps keep both suppliers and customers happy. 

Eldred Himsworth is a partner emeritus of BVE and former president of Blue Sky Energy Solutions.  A certified member of the International Ground Source Heat Pump Association, Dr. Himsworth has designed geothermal heat pump systems for a wide variety of homes throughout the Front Range.  In addition to his work with geothermal and energy analysis, Eldred has over 25 years of experience as a consulting geophysicist and exploration manager. 

Brian Fowler, of GeoSource Inc., has over seventeen years of experience in the geothermal industry and has designed, managed and installed over 1000 geothermal systems in a variety of climates and subsurface conditions.  Over the past several years Mr. Fowler has been an active partner on many large commercial projects throughout the west.  Recent large Colorado projects include a 200+ ton system at the Snowmass Ski Village, at 300+ ton system at Devil’s Thumb Ranch in Fraser and a 22+ ton residential system in Denver.  Mr. Fowler is an International Ground Source Heat Pump Association Certified Trainer and Installer. 

Mr. Wayne Arde, of CanAmerica drilling, has been drilling and installing geothermal heat pump system loops since 1987.  They have installed over 2500 tons of geothermal loops, including many commercial installations over 20 tons.  Two such examples are the 80+ ton loop for the Colorado Springs School District Bus Building and a 72+ ton loop for the Delta Montrose Electric Association Administration Building.
